The World Medical Association (WMA) has ”expressed its grave concern over the arrests of leaders of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA).” Representatives of the TMA were were detained after publicly voicing opposition to military offensives, citing a desire to curb the “physical, psychological, social and environmental health problems” caused by continued military conflict.
The German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN) fully supports the WMA’s statement. DGPPN-President Arno Deister, on behalf of the DGPPN Executive Committee, expressed his sympathy to colleagues in the TMA. We offer our support to the WMA and TMA in their efforts to
secure the release of the eleven physicians currently being held without just cause.
