The exhibition is made possible by a fundraising campaign, initiated by the DGPPN, to which numerous medical associations have donated, especially the German Medical Association. It is supervised by an interdisciplinary advisory board composed of 47 representatives of associations for patients and relatives, relatives of victims, historians, representatives of medical associations, museum directors, people from politics and, of course, psychiatrists. The travelling exhibition is under the auspices of Federal President Joachim Gauck.
